Addiction Professional Program

Purpose: to provide comprehensive course work in addiction, counseling, recovery support services, co-occurring issues of mental illness and addiction plus more on clinical supervision. Students completing this diploma program will be prepared to provide direct addiction services.
This program continues to build on previous coursework to cover content relevant in clinical addiction treatment and in dynamic recovery. The Addiction Professional program provides selected topics to broaden the student’s knowledge of the field with an emphasis on understanding clinical practice and the vital role of clinical supervision, professional standards, community involvement and leadership.
Additional coursework and electives are available in patterns of use, approaches to treatment, relapse prevention, addiction and mental illness, group work, ethics, client education, family dynamics, “The Life Model” as an approach to holistic health and recovery, and community outreach and more.
Meets educational requirements for Certified Addiction Professional, CAP.
Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Acquire a knowledge base appropriate for employment in the vast addiction field.
- Identify various screening and assessment tools for clinical evaluation.
- Develop an appropriate treatment plan.
- Recognize primary and secondary psychiatric disorders in clients with substance abuse disorders.
- Satisfy the educational requirements for Certified Addiction Professional, CAP.
Course Texts and Materials: Coursework is based on subject matter content that includes a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, public domain documents, textbooks, video / audio clips and trade books, including faith-based materials.
